Verifiable Monitoring for Transparency Logs
Transparency systems, such as Certificate Transparency and Binary Transparency, let clients verify that a specific object was committed to an append-only public history and that later checkpoints extend earlier ones. What they do not natively provide is a cryptographically complete answer to content-based questions such as “show me all certificates for this domain” or “show me every release for this module”. Users must either scrape and parse the entire log themselves or trust external search/index services that can omit results. Verifiable Indices target this gap and propose a continuously maintained, end-to-end verifiable index layered over an existing append-only log. The index derives content-based keys from log entries, maps them back to positions in the source log, and publishes authenticated index states that can be independently verified. This report presents the Verifiable Index model and architecture, summarizes prototype benchmark results, and discusses its application to Certificate Transparency.
