Evaluation of safety standards for IoT household appliances
This work provides an overview of various safety standards applicable to IoT household appliances. We differentiate between compulsory standards, like the CE sign, optional seals of approval, which are awarded by independent institutions, legislative plans and standards from software engineering. The focus is on security in the sense of IT-security and privacy, this means the protection of personal data and attack avoidance when using IoT devices. We show that the knowledge to protect against vulnerabilities in IoT is alredy out there in best practices and that certain measures could become compulsory due to legislative efforts.
