Influence of Vendor Customisations on Device Security
In order to differentiate devices from other manufacturers and offer users added value, manufacturers of Android smartphones customize their devices. This includes both preinstalled applications and the operating system and its features themselves. This report focuses on security issues that can arise as a result of these adaptations. Likewise, an analysis is performed of how manufacturer customisations affect the fingerprintability of devices. To this end, devices from different manufacturers were compared. It was found that adaptations to the software as well as hardware differences lead to further potentially fingerprintable information sources being accessible.
