Whitepaper APIs in E-Government (DE)
Application Programming Interfaces, or APIs for short, enable the provision of web services and data via machine-readable interfaces while restricting access to defined user groups through authentication and authorization mechanisms.
As Austria currently lacks clear guidelines on which standards APIs provided by public authorities must adhere to, the aim of this White Paper was to define a work item for a national API strategy in Austria. The content covers, on the one hand, principles and considerations that may be of importance for a public authority when developing APIs and, on the other hand, technical implementation details for API developers, including security standards for APIs.
