Power Side Channels on Mobile Devices
Side channels have increasingly become a focus of research in recent years. These are attacks that extract information from a computer system by observing (mostly physical) effects that arise indirectly from the processing of that information. Such side channels also exist on mobile devices and can be used to extract various kinds of information.
This project first provides an overview of the existing scientific literature on side channels on mobile devices. The focus is on physical side channels and, within that area, particularly on side channels based on fluctuations in power consumption (power line side channels). A dedicated evaluation platform was then developed, and a side channel based on charging current consumption was implemented for a specific mobile device.
